Weathervane Scallop

Description
The Weathervane Scallop is a large scallop. They are bivalves, referring to the two flattened shelly valves which are hinged together. Their shells are a brownish color on the outside and have many prominent heavy ribs.
Dimensions
Their shell lengths may reach 8 inches or larger at maturity.
Diet
They are filter feeders that are capable of ingesting living and inert particles suspended in the water column.
Habitat & Range
They are found in the eastern North Pacific Ocean. Their distribution ranges from Point Reyes, California, to the Pribilof Islands of Alaska.
Conservation status
THIS SPECIES IS LISTED AS NOT EVALUATED.
